it is a big, big world
Myka looked around the baths after getting her swimsuit on and was waiting for Uncle Mattie. The girl was ready for this. It had been months since she'd last been swimming...even then it was with Papa...The Greco-Roman did her best to not think about it. She didn't want to be sad...she wanted to prove that she was a big girl. Strong. Strong for Mama and everyone else. But, honestly, the girl didn't know why...but every time she thought about being strong for Mama, she couldn't help but get sad. Her mom, back in Greece, always made her wipe her own tears when she missed Papa...Myka looked into the mirror and dried the tears from her eyes. The ones that hadn't quite fallen and weren't going to. Mykala was stronger than that.
She had to be.
She had to prove herself, didn't she? Just like everyone else here...
It didn't look like everyone was sad like her, though...even though Myka honestly didn't know how she felt most of the day. Sometimes, she felt something, but coulnd't put the right word to it--other times, like now, she felt something that didn't feel like anything. The Greco-Roman preferred that much better than feeling sad.
The girl mustered up her confidence as a girl pulled on one of the two braids in Myka's hair as she ran passed. The other girl yelled something back at Myka that she didn't quite catch. So, Myka frowned and fought back the tears. Wiping her eyes once more, the little girl ran out of the changing room and tried to find her uncle.
Myka looked around frantically, thinking that he'd already he out. She tried to get to higher ground, in search of him. "Uncle Mattie?" Myka called out. Getting lost was one of her worst fears...and now she couldn't find Uncle Mattie...The girl flew around the pool area before giving in to the feeling that she was lost and set herself down on one of the bleachers. Mykala hunched over and started weeping. Gosh, was she scared...
